Most colors can generally be divided into two types: warm and cool. Warm colors such as red, yellow, and orange evoke feelings of activity, passion, and maybe even anger. Cool colors such as blue, green, and purple are associated with tranquility, harmony, and sometimes sadness.
Darker colors will make a room feel more compact, whereas lighter colors will make a room feel more open and airy. Light colors such as light browns, beige, creams, and grays are classified as neutral colors and generally do not have a strong psychological impact when you walk into a room. Neutral colors tend to fade in the background.
Since there’s no exact science to color psychology, it’s important to follow your intuition and personal judgements. You’ll want to know how you’ll look and feel in a space. If a certain color arrangement appeals to you, give it a try!
